MLAPV SPRING CONFERENCE
SATURDAY, MAY 4, 2019
10:00 TO 1:00
TO BE HELD AT THE ART MUSEUM
LOOKING TO WRITE, WRITING TO LOOK
Art is a natural prompt for writing: it provides visual learners with inspiration, struggling writers with a subject, and all students with an opportunity for reflection and personal connections. In this workshop, teachers will participate in a variety of model writing activities drawn from the PMS’s teacher resource Looking to Write, Writing to Look. These activities include narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing, as well as poetry and can be adapted to a variety of grade levels and any work of art in any language.
Workshop limited to 50 participants. Must pre-register. No walk-ins on site. $20 fee. (This includes badge for entrance to the museum for the rest of the afternoon)
Where to Meet
Meet at the West Entrance to the Museum. The West Entrance is the one closest to the parking garage, NOT at the top of the Rocky Steps.
The Museum has a parking garage for Museum visitors. You may access the garage via Art Museum Drive or Waterworks Drive. You can have your parking validated at the visitor rate.
More information is available here: http://www.philamuseum.org/visit/?page=2
Some street parking is available in the Fairmount neighborhood, but some spaces are restricted to only one or two hour parking.
What to bring and wear
Wear comfortable shoes and bring an extra layer. Some museum galleries can be very cold.
We will provide you with everything you need for the workshop. You won’t be able to bring backpacks or water bottles into the galleries, so pack light if you can. We do have a coat room where you can check things if need be.
Act 48 credit available
